Rubus nidigrolaria (Jostaberry) is a cross between the Black Currant and Gooseberry, but is more vigorous.
It looks like a gooseberry until it turns nearly black and ripens.
It tastes more like a Black Currant, although slightly milder, and the berry size is bigger.
Jostaberries contain more vitamin C than gooseberries and are great to eat fresh or as jam, juice, wine, and in cordials.
It is a thornless, plant that grows over 5' by the second year.
It bears fruit sooner and is self-fertile.
Jostaberries can yield up to 5kg per plant.
It was developed in Europe and is cold-hardy.
They are resistant to powdery mildew, fungal dieback, currant bud mite, and white pine blister.
