Summer fruiting Raspberries hold their fruit on the canes extremely well so you can revisit every couple of days to pick fruit at premium ripeness. These sturdy almost thornless canes produce a succulent plump fruit that harvests early to mid summer.
PLANTING: Prefers full sun to part shade in slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the roots. Cover with soil and water in well. Some well rotted compost or very old animal manure will be beneficial.
GROWING: Mulch well to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds, but keep away from the trunk to prevent rot. Apply fertiliser to soil when growth begins.
HARVESTING: Fruit is ripe when it is well coloured and comes easily off the stem. Eat fruit fresh or add to fruit salads. Raspberries freeze well and make excellent jams and jellies.
PRUNING: During Winter dormancy prune the canes that produced fruit over the past summer at ground level. Thin the remaining canes to prevent over crowding.
