Time of planting will vary from district todistrict. Peas are susceptible to frost damage particularly when in flower,so timing is most important.They will grow in a wide range of soils preferably following a leafy cropsuch as cabbage or silverbeet. The soil should be deeply dug then limedat a rate of 150 to 200g per square metre several weeks before sowing.Fertilizer application should be restricted to a dressing of a completefertilizer at planting time. Cultivation should be limited to shallow hoeingto control weeds and regular watering.
