A very sweet pea that are eaten pods and all. A cool weather crop, peas should be sown to mature before weather becomes too hot or the flowers will not set. Similarly severe frost will reduce cropping. They will grow in a wide range of soils but it is standard practice among vegetable growers to rotate crops so that peas are planted in soil prepared for a prior leaf crop such as lettuce.
As they are sensitive to fertilizer damage, superphosphate should be placed in bands at least 7.5cm away from seeds.
They require plenty of water especially when pods are forming
